Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says the fact that President Buhari or any Minister don't go to their respective offices, does not mean they are not working. Lai Mohammed said this in reaction to backlash from Nigerians after President Buhari failed to attend the Federal Executive Council Meetig on Wednesday April 26th.
Mohammed yesterday told state house correspondents that President Buhari decided to work from his home that day hence his absence from the FEC meeting.
Garba Shehu who is one of the presidential spokesperson, yesterday released a statement saying that doctors have asked President Buhari to slow down with work due to the fact that he is just recovering from an ailment. Lai who spoke with Channels TV in Ilorin yesterday said President Buhari's absence from the FEC meeting does not mean he is sick.
“I think the President has been quite transparent. The President has told you that he was ill a few month ago, he has come back and he is taking his time. It is not correct for you to say that you don’t see him at public functions. That’s not correct. The fact that a President or a minister does not come to office, does not mean he is not working. I’m here today for instance, those who have come to my office would not see me. Mr President receives ambassadors, he does all he ought’s to do but the fact that he didn’t come for the Federal Executive Council meeting does not mean he is ill and anyway, there is no compulsion for him to preside over every FEC meeting” he said.
