A 23-year-old man has committed suicide in Yola, Adamawa state after
having a fight with his mother in which he dislocated her left wrist.
Musa Fidelis had been in a foul mood that day according to family
members and as the argument broke out between him and his mother, he got
physical.
After the fight, Musa had left his family in anger and
retired to his room after his siblings mentioned that they were going
to move their mother out of the house in Jimeta, Yola.
When Musa did not
come out of the room for an unusually long time, his family members
went in to investigate and found him hanging from the roof. Musa, who
was a generator mechanic apprentice, reportedly had problems with
alcohol and drug abuse and as such, was given to erratic behaviour.
According
to Daily Trust, neighbours of the deceased said he was aggressive and
fought almost everyone who crossed his path on the day he committed
suicide. His uncle said that a day before he died, he had been behaving
strangely, making death threats to members of his family and predicting
that there would be a death in their family the next day.
It is
not certain what exactly prompted Musa to take his life. Some think it
was the altercation with his mother but his elder sister revealed that a
pregnant lady recently came to the family compound to say that Musa was
responsible for her pregnancy and that might have also been a trigger.
The
spokesman of Adamawa State Police command, Othman Abubakar, confirmed
the incident to reporters but said he was yet to receive an official
report.
